Every day we are bombarded by the news of the economic downturn, natural disasters, wars and conflicts, political instability and global warming. What shall we do and what can we do?
Christmas is a time of giving. Let us try our very best to give what we can to help make the world a better place to live in.
TIME – we can give some of our time to make friends and promote peace and harmony in our neighbourhood and community. Attempt to make two more friends in our own neighbourhood this coming year. Restore and strengthen the bond and fellowship of old friends.
GIFTS – we can offer some gifts to those who are less fortunate. Preferably we should present it in person instead of just sending by post, unless it is beyond our comfortable reach. Our gifts will certainly bring much joy and hope to them.
WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT – we can send a card as in the traditional way or an e-card or a sms or a phone call. These words of encouragement can be the most crucial and uplifting words to the recipients. There is a saying that goes: ‘It is the thought that counts’. This will sometimes bring in the home run.
EFFORT – we can adopt some of these actions in order to create a better environment to live in. Actions can be done collectively or individually such as No Driving One Day In A Month; Gotong Royong in the neighbourhood; Fast One Day In A Week; Separate Rubbish And Put In Recycling Bins; Pray For One Neighbour Per Day; Recycle Old Usable Clothings and Household Items; Conserve Water and Electricity Daily; Take The Stairs And Not The Lift (only for those who are able); Dry Clothes In The Sun; Car Pooling; Reduce Food Consumption Daily; Only Buy What Is Necessary And Essential.
Our 2009 Diocesan Theme is TRANSFORMATION OF COMMUNITIES IN CHRIST. The working committee has already been working, planning and incorporating the above mentioned Actions for implementation in the Diocese and Parishes.
Wishing you a Blessed and Meaningful Christmas and a Wonderful New Year.
