Thanksgiving Celebration

The Diocese hopes to bring joy, peace and hope to the nation and the
communities. It is a special celebration with thanksgiving and praise
to our God. The Diocese may be 40 years old but the ministry and mission
work goes back 200 years with the coming of the British Anglican chaplains
in the late 1700s.

The first Anglican Church built in this part of the world is St George’s Penang
in 1819. Christ Church Melaka became an Anglican Church in 1824 though
it was built in 1753 as a Dutch Reformed Church. The first Anglican Church
in the peninsular is All Saint’s Taiping which was completely built of wood
in 1887. The Tamil mission began in 1871 in Butterworth, and the Chinese
mission began in 1886 in Penang.

2010 is a “Year of Thanksgiving” to God by the Diocese of West Malaysia.
We are celebrating God’s goodness and faithfulness the last 40 years.
A number of events will happen throughout the year.

                                                                                Bishop Moon Hing
