The Diocesan Women’s Committee (DWC) Leadership Seminar 2010 was organized by the Upper Central Archdeaconry Women’s Committee (UCAWC) from Saturday 23 to Sunday 24 January 2010 at Villa Dominic, Genting Highlands. 37 ladies from 10 churches participated in this programme
The Speaker was Ms Sarah Yap. She is the TEE Director at Seminari Theoloji Malaysia (STM) and she has vast experience in speaking to women. This year’s topic was a continuation of last year’s theme “Transformation of Communities in Christ”. Using Mary and Martha as examples, she emphasized the need for ladies to not only serve but avail themselves to be nurtured to lead. We were nourished with nuggets of wisdom, inspiration and knowledge in an atmosphere of acceptance.
Ms. Mary Bernard Joseph was the facilitator for the session on the topic “Christian Leadership – A Woman’s Place.” She used several female characters from the Bible to illustrate her points. Her session was lively, creative and fun, with participants engaged in laughter whilst carrying out their activities.
Another session was on Team Building conducted by Mrs. Nesamani Alexandor. The ladies were divided into three groups and each group was given a bundle of old newspapers with instructions to build a Newspaper Shelter. The group was told that they were stuck in the desert and had to build a structure to protect the entire group from the sun. All three groups displayed good team work and discipline and came up with creative handwork. Had the groups conferred with one another and combined their resources, however, they could have come up with a single viable structure that offered protection for all.
On Sunday morning the ladies started the day with the Order of Morning Prayer. The seminar ended with lunch on Sunday 24 January 2010.
Feedback from the participants is that they benefited much from this Leadership Seminar. They were all fired up, to get back to their churches to encourage and motivate members to bring positive changes in their Women’s Fellowships.
