| The Upper Central Archdeaconry Women’s Committee (UCAWC) organized its 3rd Tamil Retreat at Golden Sands Baptist Centre, Port Dickson, from Friday 30th January to Sunday 31st January 2010. We were delighted to have 35 ladies from 8 Churches participating in this Retreat.
The Theme speaker was Rev Jesvinder Singh from St. Matthew’s Church Selayang. He spoke on the theme “Taking to Heart the Commands of God.” He divided the 3 theme talks into 3 sub headings namely 1. The Sick Heart 2. The Renewed Heart 3. The Anointed Heart The ladies were very interactive throughout all the sessions. On the second night Rev Jesvinder invited the ladies for prayer, and many were slain in Spirit. After the prayer session, Rev Jesvinder with his wife Carol counseled individually those who wanted to share their problems or seek advice. This was the pastoral care we could give to the ladies present. This proved useful as our objective was to guide the ladies in their spiritual life. |

Mrs. Lila Chelliah from the Brickfields Tamil Methodist Church led the ladies through a session on the topic “Biblical Approach to Indian Traditions.” This session was a real eye opener for many ladies, especially those who are converts and who still practice some of the Indian traditions during some special occasions. The session was interactive, enabling the ladies to ask a lot of questions to clear their doubts on the issues of traditions. One of the activity sessions saw the ladies being divided into four groups with each group being given a mahjong paper, a bottle of gum and a pair of scissors. They were asked to portray four Commands of God in picture form, using anything that was found in and around the Retreat area. All four groups displayed good team work and came out with very creative handwork. |

Feedback from participants was positive. They benefited very much from this Retreat. Many of the ladies shared that they had never been to a retreat, or left their families or been to the seaside in their life. Some of them said that they really deserved this ‘break’ from their normal routine. They also requested that this kind of programme be organized for them every year. They felt very refreshed and were geared up to get back to their churches to encourage other sisters in bringing further progress to the Women’s Fellowships in their respective churches.
